One of the most popular grave goods in pagan burials of Saxon women in the early Middle Ages were glass bead necklaces. The Franks continued the art of glass bead making according to Roman tradition and also traded the beads as luxury goods to northern Germany. Glass beads are still made today in North Africa using a very similar technique.
