In 1894, while digging stones in Kronshagen near Kiel, workers came across a large clay vessel buried 75 cm deep in the ground on a block of stone. Valuable bronze objects were deposited in the vessel, including components of a woman's costume and tools. They were partially damaged during the recovery, while the clay vessel was smashed and not picked up. Comparisons with grave finds have clarified the function and mode of wearing the arm and neck jewellery, while it is still not known what the large bronze basins were used for. The bronze objects are of extremely high quality; their decorations show the wide cultural connections of the Nordic Bronze Age.
