Two-piece Mould for Socketed Axes (2)

Two-piece bronze moulds are very rare. Most moulds are made of sandstone or clay. Such early technological masterpieces signal the emergence of specialised bronze workshops that served the growing demand for the sought-after finished products regionally and beyond. The replicas on display were made and used for scientific casting experiments at the Archaeological Museum Hamburg over 50 years ago.
