57 Burial Objects from a Megalithic Tomb

Showcase

In megalithic tombs, the dead were buried in the same burial chamber for many generations. In Nenndorf, too, there is evidence of several burials: A jar, two flint axes and three arrowheads were in a separated area of the chamber; the bowls and the rock axe belonged to another burial. Older burials were also often simply pushed aside. In Nenndorf, the remains of two funnel beakers in the entrance area to the burial chamber indicate such a procedure. Incidentally, the characteristic funnel-shaped neck of these typical Neolithic vessels gave its name not only to the funnel beaker itself, but to an entire Neolithic culture.
